Hypersonic Superconductor is a piece inspired by many things, and in the process of writing it ended as something different from where it started. My goal from the outset was to write something inspired by rock/prog/metal music, but still suitable for strings. I feel like string players don’t get to bang their heads to the music too often, and I want to provide more opportunities for string players to reach into different genres. I also drew inspiration from my love of video games. I’ve been an avid gamer for most of my life, and I wanted to write some string parts that had an aggressive, fluctuating pulse that emulated the feel of an exciting video game battle. As the title reflects, the piece is fast, unrelenting, and charged with frenetic energy.
