Original composition for string orchestras.
Playing Video Games at 3:00am takes it’s name from the exact thing that inspired it. It was late at night and I had class projects due, and instead of addressing the source of my stress I chose to ignore it and gain temporary respite from my obligations by playing video games. I believe at the time I was on a kick for Assassin’s Creed IV, but that may have been one of many games I was choosing to play instead of being responsible.
This is an ode to the procrastinators, the get-it-done-laters, the ones who have always been able to wait until the last minute to solve problems and still turn out okay, even if it causes you and your teachers much headache in the process.
Playing Video Games isn’t meant to be very serious, but the important key here is to lean a little into the beat. It should always feel like it’s wanting to push ahead, even if it never actually does (that should sound familiar to some of you string players out there). The timing can be tricky, but just like in video games and in life, maintain your focus on the goal and keep trying until you get it right, and you’ll pull through fine.
